So today was a day of total contrast. Having walked in to the coire in a t-shirt we put our crampons on and layered up for the climb.

The plan was to head to Torridon to do Beinn Eighe but heading out a little bit late in the day we made a split section decision to head to An Teallach with the aim of climbing hayfork gully. Clearly there was still lots of snow on the hill but only in the northern coires the southern aspects were super sticky lovely dry rock.

After getting warm front pointing up the gully it was time to put the spikes away and scramble across the ridge avoiding small patches of stubborn snow and ice. Reaching Sail Liath in the dusk the snow was a welcome rest for the knees to bring us down to the Shenavall track and a quick trudge out.

A fabulous day!

  • This is a true dream to do. Saw the Highlands once in summer and dreamed about a winter visit, some day.
    Thank for the lovely blog.
